September 14, 2009 – Ottawa, Ontario: Today, Nortel announced that Avaya has been selected to acquire the majority of Nortel’s Enterprise Division including Nortel Government Solutions and Diamondware Ltd. The deal is subject to court approvals in relevant jurisdictions, regulatory approvals and regular closing conditions.
Combat Networks was one of only two Canadian Nortel partners pre-selected by Avaya to join its partner program prior to today’s announcement by Nortel and Avaya. After initial discussions in January, both Avaya and Combat Networks signed a distribution agreement effective May 1, 2009 that would see Combat Networks begin to retrain and certify both their sales force and engineering teams across Canada on Avaya systems.
“Since the early spring and over the summer, while Nortel’s CCAA proceedings were taking place, Combat Networks was busy undertaking the requisite training and certifications to become a full Avaya partner,” said Greg Curry, Director of Convergence Services at Combat. “We feel that Combat Networks is well positioned to be able to support Nortel and Avaya customers while the integration of the companies takes place over the next several months”.
Richard DaCosta, President of Combat Networks went on to add “Combat Networks supports many of Nortel’s largest voice, data and convergence networks in Canada. A strategic decision was made by the company to invest in our Avaya relationship earlier in the year and we made commitments to Avaya and our customers at that time. Avaya was the only manufacturer that brought a migration solution to the table for Combat Networks and our Nortel customers, where every other manufacturer favoured a “rip and replace” strategy which was obviously unacceptable. We are looking forward to working with Avaya and our customers to continue to support Nortel’s world class technology and move forward with the combined entity as one of its largest and most strategic partners in Canada”.
In related news, Combat Networks has launched its new website with Nortel and Avaya branding and the company’s new service and product offerings as a full Avaya partner. For more information, please visit www.combatnetworks.com.

ROB FINUCAN, President and chief executive of Combat Networks, a $3.7-million data communications integrator based in Nepean, Ont.
"Here's my best advice for companies who are looking to find their niche: Get typecast. Combat Networks, like many companies, was born out of an opportunity to fill a vacuum in an underserved market.
